Setting up the Cougar

Flying with Favourites
A first introduction to Foxy

Howdy! So - your Cougar has arrived. You've installed all the software, run the CCP to make sure everything is working as David's explained in the setup guide on here. You've fired up Foxy and after a few welcome screens, you're wanting to set up your controllers for your favourite flight sim, and go flying. Question ... how do you do this?

1.) Select your sim from the Favourites menu. We'll choose EAW (European Air War) in this example.

When you select your sim, Foxy opens up the files associated with that sim. We then need to transfer these, or download them to the Cougar, by pressing the download toolbar button.
2.) Press the download toolbar button, or just F12 on your keyboard.

Downloading the joystick file to the Cougar

After a short time, the EAW files are downloaded to the joystick, and you're ready to go and fly. That's it! Your controllers are programmed and you can go and fly.

Now, you may want to know what all the buttons and hats are going to do in EAW. After all, someone, in this case Red Dog, has programmed them to perform various actions. So how do you find out? Well hopefully they've included with their files a picture - a graphical layout. You can tell if they have if on the 2nd toolbar, the "Graphical Layout" label is lit up. In this case it is, because Red Dog always creates some very cool layouts with his files, and so we just click on it.
3.) Click on the Graphical Layout label to view ... yes, you've guessed it ... the graphical layout.

Let's view the graphic file associated with the joytick file

And that shows you the associated graphical layout showing what all the hats and buttons do. In this case it's this image. Nice one Red Dog !!

And here's the graphical layout for EAW

You could print this out from the File menu if you wanted to have a copy beside you when you head off flying.
There may also be some notes from Red Dog describing how he's set up the various hats and buttons, and you can tell this from the "View ReadMe" label - as before, if it's lit up, then click on it and see what Red Dog has to say.
4.) Click on the View ReadMe label to view any notes associated with the files.

The View ReadMe label is highlighted so let's click it

And this shows the Read Me notes for the joystick files.

Let's read the ReadMe notes

As before we could print these out from the file menu. Now you can close down Foxy.
5.) That's it!. Your Cougar is programmed to the hilt, and ready for you to fly with. Easy huh!

A first introduction to FoxyGUI
What? You want an even easier way to do that? Ok, start up FoxyGUI then. Wow - err .... look at all that writing telling you what to do - couldn't be easier. FoxyGUI defaults to being in something called "Game Support" mode which is what we want, so we just press the Next button down the bottom.

And this takes us to this screen.

Select the game and press the big Download button

Now all I need to do is to follow the instructions and select my game from the list on the left. Then I press the big download button on the right, and that's it! Cougar programmed and ready for flying. And if I wanted to view the associated Graphical Layout and Read Me files, well I guess that's what the other two big buttons on here do ;)

Enjoy!
